About Gate City Elementary
Welcome to Gate City Elementary School!
My name is Shantel Delonas, and I joined the Grizzly family in 2019 proudly serving as principal. Prior to my post at Gate City, I served as a classroom teacher at Greenacres Elementary School and then as Principal at the Lincoln Early Learning Center. My passion has always been to meet learners where they are in their learning to help them grow and build self-confidence. I have a love for life-long learning and know there is always room to learn and grow.
At Gate City Elementary School, we are a community of educators, families and patrons collectively working together towards a common purpose to empower learners to be kind, inclusive of others, to problem solve and persevere through challenging learning experiences with adult support. We want learners to develop self-confidence and a growth mindset through active engagement in the learning process. We are dedicated to our mission:

It is my ultimate goal to provide learners, their families and the community with a positive learning experience in a caring and rigorous learning environment through researched based instructional practices and positive relationships.

Gate City Grizzlies, teachers, and staff want academics to be accessible to all learners. We strive to make our lessons focused on specific needs of learners in the class providing multiple opportunities for learners to interact and experience the content in a variety of mediums. When learning becomes visible to the learners, they are more engaged and motivated to achieve. Teachers and learners strive to provide effective feedback to help everyone along the path of learning. Classes focus on building a growth mindset. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” (Dweck, 2015). At Gate City, we strive to establish positive learning environments for all learners to succeed.

Attendance at Gate City Elementary School Gate City strives to create a SAFE, KIND, and LEARNING atmosphere for learners, staff, and volunteers. We teach that we should always act with Gate City P.R.I.D.E. Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy. Every day is an important day of learning for your child. We recognize that sometimes absences can't be avoided, so if your child will be absent from school for any reason, please email the classroom teacher and school office immediately so we can mark it down.
